Aloha everyone! My name is Paula Angela Saladino. I was born and raised in Oʻahu and grew up in Kalihi. I graduated from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa last semester with a bachelor's in public health and a pre-health minor. My interests in public health and medicine emerged from personal experiences witnessing how social determinants of health greatly influence health outcomes for people in my community. I love all things public health, but I'm especially interested in substance use prevention and rural health. I aspire to become a primary care physician one day and hope to utilize my public health knowledge to reduce health disparities within disadvantaged populations.
I've been an active member of PPMAH since it started 3 years ago and have held an officer position for 2.5 years. Watching members grow into more confident and prepared pre-medical students through PPMAH's guidance and opportunities inspires me to continue contributing to this amazing organization and close-knit community. My goal as president this school year is to increase membership throughout all pre-med stages (high school, undergrad, gap year) and provide enough resources for our members to achieve their dream professions.
The pre-medicine track can be a long and challenging path when done alone. We welcome you to join PPMAH because every pre-med deserves to feel supported in their career aspirations and have a community to lean on.
