Hi everyone! My name is Julienne. I was born and raised in Honolulu and grew up in the community of Kalihi. I am a graduate of Farrington High School and went to the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, where I received my bachelor's and master’s degrees in public health. I am passionate about health education, disease prevention, and community engagement. I aspire to become a primary care physician, and I hope to utilize my public health knowledge in clinical practice to provide community-centered, quality healthcare to medically underserved communities in Hawaiʻi. I ran for the Director of Mentorship position because I want to encourage more students to seek mentorship within this organization. I am the eldest daughter of Filipino immigrants. The first in my family to pursue higher education and medical school. So, I know all too well the frustration of trying to navigate the complex world of academia without having family members who understand this path and can guide you along the way. Throughout my academic journey, I turned to classmates, professors, and student organizations for support and mentorship- one of them being PPMAH. I am grateful for this organization because it has given me lifelong connections and friendships with other Filipino pre-meds (many of whom are also first-generation students) and physicians from the community. As this year’s director of mentorship, I aim to reignite the PMAH PODS Mentorship Program to build learning communities where pre-health students feel supported in their academic and career endeavors.
