Hello! I’m Dr Hazel Abinsay, but everyone calls me “Dr Hazel.” I was born and raised in Kalihi, went to Sacred Hearts for high school, UH for undergrad, JABSOM for med school, then went to USC for residency to train in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. I currently am in private practice doing outpatient Pediatrics in Kalihi and Ewa Beach.

I came home from residency in 2015 and shortly after returning I started mentoring premeds as a passion project. I remember very well being a Filipina premed at UH and feeling like I didn’t know what I was doing and didn’t quite fit in with the other premeds. I didn’t have much guidance but now know that have the right guidance is EVERYTHING. It’s important to have mentors that have walked the walk and know first hand what the process is like and has succeeded.

PPMAH was born out of a dream that Filipino premeds could have a safe space, a community, a pamilya to come to without feeling competitive or judged and they’re free to be their true selves.

Dr Ganitano, Dr Ver, myself, and a whole community of other physicians / residents / medical students / premeds would love to get to know you and see how we can help you navigate your premed journey.
